In response to the NIH’s recent updates on human subjects and clinical trials research, the CTSI Grants Submission Unit (GSU) hosted an informational webinar on March 6, 2018. This presentation, now available online, offers an overview of these changes, useful information on how to best plan and time applications in order to factor in new and redesigned components, and answering frequently asked questions regarding the new requirements.
The changes and updates discussed went into effect on January 25, 2018 for all NIH applications involving human subjects and/or clinical trials. A few highlights of the changes discussed in this presentation include:
- The new definition for clinical trials
- Mandatory use of a Single IRB for multisite domestic human subjects studies
- Increased emphasis on methodology and design
