Overall Details

Training Grant renewal applications have their own requirements. We have compiled links to components with unique renewal requirements below.

Do not include the following anywhere in the application unless otherwise specified in the FOA. Applications that include any of these materials will be withdrawn and not reviewed.

  • Biosketches of current or former trainees/scholars
  • Any sensitive personally identifiable information, such as photographs or any other individual demographic information
  • Actual IDPs or blank IDP forms
  • Promotional material for workshops, seminars, or other events (flyers, agendas, etc.)
  • Course syllabi
  • Program brochures

10-Year Assessment

After its first 10 years, NIH plans to assess the program’s overall “outcomes, effectiveness in enhancing diversity, and whether program should continue”. NIH will make a decision on whether the program should:

  1. Continue as proposed
  2. Continue with modification
  3. Discontinue

Specific Metrics Used to Assess This Decision:

  • Undergrad Student Programs
    • Successful completion of undergraduate degrees in a STEM field
    • Pending application for and/or enrollment in advanced degree programs in a STEM field
    • Subsequent participation in formal research training or career development programs in a STEM field
    • Subsequent participation in research or employment in a STEM field
    • Authorship of scientific publications in a STEM field
  • Graduate Student Programs
    • Successful completion of STEM graduate programs
    • Subsequent participation in a formal research training or career development programs in a STEM field
    • Subsequent participation in research or employment in a STEM field
    • Authorship of scientific publications in a STEM field
    • Subsequent independent research grant support from NIH or other sources
  • Postdoc and Early Career Investigator Programs
    • Subsequent participation in formal research training or career development programs in a STEM field
    • Subsequent participation in research or employment in a STEM field
    • Authorship of scientific publications in a STEM field
    • Subsequent independent research grant support from NIH or other sources
